Too Late For Peace?
Is there still a way to achieve peace in Israel and Palestine?
What will happen to Gaza? According to Amir Weitmann, President of the Likud Party in Israel, “we’ll simply clear the debris, develop it, and make it a normal place.” Since the war resumed in March 2025, Benjamin Netanyahu's government has begun to openly push their agenda to reclaim Palestinian territories, and from devastated Gaza to the besieged West Bank, Palestine faces an uncertain future. Weitmann has written a detailed and costed plan to relocate all Palestinian citizens to neighbouring countries. The cost to relocate one Palestinian family to Egypt? 19,000 US dollars. “We worked with economists to calculate everything, and it's not expensive”, says Weitmann. But not all Israelis seek to demolish Palestinian existence; Hagit Ofran works for the Israeli peace organisation Peace Now, which promotes a two-state solution and monitors Jewish settlements in Palestinian territory. Observing the demolition of Palestinian homes, what saddens her is their inability to resist; “A few years ago, there may have been riots. Now, the price of being caught by the police is too high.”
