Burqa Ban

Burqa Ban As France moves ever closer to banning the burqa, French residents discuss whether the ban should go ahead and what the burqa represents.
French polititian Eric Rault argues, "I can wear a cross under my shirt, I can wear a kippah to show my faith, or a headscarf - but to cover the face is a violation of identity, security and dignity". For some, Rault's viewpoints echo the idea that the burqa compromises French ideals and values. Some feel that French identity is slipping away; as one mine worker complains, "we no longer uphold any values". But for others "the ban represents the humiliation of Muslims" and serves to fuel violence against Muslim communities.
