The locals tackling litter with bottle recycling
In Vanuatu, businesses are tackling the problem of rubbish with sustainable solutions. Vanuatu Brewing Ltd collects used glass bottles from the community and recycles them in an effort to tackle littering.
Vanuatu Brewing Limited has been collecting and reusing its glass bottles of Tusker Beer & Cascade Water for over 30 years. ‘We visit the rural islands two or three times a year to collect bottles’, says Christophe. Tusker now imports 300,000 less bottles per year thanks to this scheme, and locals are incentivised by being paid for returning bottles. ‘If I see a bottle on the road I take it home and clean it’, says one resident.
