Under Soviet rule, young people in Central and Eastern Europe were drilled into the ideology of communism - indoctrinated with its sense of purpose, structure, and belonging. As the traditionally well-trodden road from childhood to adulthood was increasingly been swept away following the collapse of the Soviet Union, many young people in Eastern Europe soon became "outsiders" with an indeterminate future.
