Twenty Years On The assault on Tiananmen Square by the People's Liberation army put a bloody end to weeks of clamour for political change. Twenty years on, there has been no revival of political protesting by the students.
Young people have much more freedom and many more choices in life than they did twenty years ago. 'Today's young people are more adventurous and show more initiative than their predecessors.' This year, the Class of '09 are out on the streets, but in a time of financial crisis, unemployed young people are not protesting - they are job hunting. 'They are much more interested in economics than politics.'
