Cape Verde Evacuation

The catastrophic Fogo eruption

Cape Verde Evacuation The volcano of Fogo, an island in Cape Verde, had been dormant for 55 years before it suddenly erupted on April 2 1995, sending those who had settled around its base into chaos.
With no one knowing when the eruption will end - and how many villages the lava flow will devour - the local government was forced into action. They also had the tricky task of persuading Fogo's older residents to leave the homes they have spent their lives in. This documentary covers the eruption and evacuation as they were happening, documenting the people whose lives were turned upside down.
