Canada Border

US Canada border still closed in response to COVID-19 pandemic

Canada Border Badly lagging behind the US in vaccinations, Canada has banned most travel between the two countries. But as Canadian businesses buckle under the strain of lockdowns, some want the borders reopened.
With Canada emerging from a third COVID wave, its border with the USA remains mostly shut. Niagara Falls mayor Jim Diodati says the closure has decimated this tourist hot spot: 'It's been devastating and eerie to come down to this area and to see no people.' However, Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau refuses to change his position: 'This is not the right time to travel... We’re enforcing very severe consequences for anyone breaking these rules.' For people living on the border and used to regularly crossing it, there is desperation. Benedict Moran is staying in Canada with her parents, but works in Vermont: 'I work for an American company and because I live with elderly parents, it's not that easy. I can't really do my job properly, I can't go over and work.'
