Is Print Journalism Dying, Or is it Already Dead?
'If everything is online, then why bother?' says one former subscriber to 'The Boston Globe'. Along with a shift to online papers, newspapers have lost half of their classified advertising revenue to sites such as craigslist. But although the savings of internet editions are great, sites such as politico.com admit to 'still trying to find the magic solution' to making the web pay. 'Once papers say the primary focus is money, the quality of journalism is damaged' says journalist, Nick Davies. Whilst local papers seem unaffected, large papers, which do the bulk of serious reporting, are sinking.
