Gay Murder
Homosexuals in Turkey Are Still Afraid to Come Out
"Do not be silent, shout!", Ibrahim declares in the heart of the gay parade in Istanbul, "Gays are here". Such open declarations of sexuality come at a price in a society where many view homosexuality as a disease. Ibrahim knows the danger all too well after seeing his partner Ahmet shot to death. Ibrahim is defiant in his fury at the "homophobic" state - unwilling to help protect a man threatened with death by his father. While conservative Islam increasingly grows in certain areas, gay activists such as Firat still hope that "everybody everywhere could come out for their sexuality". But while the gay parade in Istabul grows every year, there are still hundred of homosexuals in Turkey far too frightened to join their proud ranks.
