The 2011 Alexandria bombing was an attack on Coptic Christians in Alexandria, Egypt, on Saturday, 1 January 2011. 23 people died as a result of the attack and over 100 were injured. Carried out by the Gaza-based Army of Islam, this is not the only example of conflict between Muslims and Christians in the country. We offer two reports that get inside the New Year bombing and the protracted history of persecution and violence between Muslims and Copts in Egypt.
