Chad Gracia — Director
Chad Gracia is a filmmaker and theater producer known for exploring themes of totalitarianism and history. After nearly 20 years in New York theater as a producer, dramaturg, and playwright, he made his directorial debut with The Russian Woodpecker, a documentary about Ukraine’s 2014 Revolution of Dignity. The film won multiple awards, including the Sundance Grand Jury Prize (2015), and was sold to Amazon.
Through his Kyiv-based production company, GraciaFilms, he continues to craft poetic and thought-provoking stories. His current projects include Sex in the Soviet Union, a trilogy examining Russia’s toxic sexual culture, and a feature about the quest to resurrect the woolly mammoth. He also co-wrote Gilgamesh with Pulitzer Prize-winner Yusef Komunyakaa and has produced numerous verse-based American plays.
