NATO Hopefuls

NATO Hopefuls A look at 90's Romania and its attempt to become a member of NATO.
After the fall of communism, change is apparent in Romania; the Hungarian President's first visit for twenty years signalled a new era of co-operation between Romania and its neighbours; Romania's new President Emil Constantinescu has new vision for his country, introducing tough but necessary economic reforms; and military leaders such as Lieutenant-Colonel Emil Olaru are working towards turning its army into an international peace-keeping force. All these changes in society are geared towards two key goals; the further integration of Romania into the West and membership of NATO.
