A Wedding in Prague Although civil partnerships are not on a totally even keel with heterosexual marriage, it is seen as a step towards a more equal society. What does the Czech Republic think of this new step?
In 2006 the Czech Republic's first civil partnership took place, with most people welcoming the growing tolerance. They also held their first gay and lesbian parade. "If homosexuality is visible - as it is today, we are promoting tolerance" states the Minister of Minorities. Yet it faces resistance from the Church and right wing extremists claim, "support for the family structure - which means a man and a woman".
