Scientist David Goodall chooses euthanasia at 104 years of age
At age 104, renowned botanist and ecologist Dr David Goodall chose euthanasia. Having decided that his quality of life had fallen too far, David travelled to Switzerland to end his life on his own terms.
"I no longer find much joy in life”, David affirms. Having spent two days on his kitchen floor after a fall earlier this year, he began to dread the thought of a nursing home. Shortly afterwards, he attempted suicide. Driven to opt for euthanasia in Switzerland, one of just two countries allowing assisted dying for foreigners, David affirms that he is "keen to get on with the job". Neither sick nor in pain, David's decision is considered rather unusual, but having campaigned for voluntary euthanasia for many years, his choice enables him to spread his beliefs: “He made his death have meaning... he saw this thing that he could do to help people that came after him".
