As female asylum seekers attempt to seek refuge in the UK, voluntary organisations work to ensure that refugees have shelter along the way. This report looks at the efforts of refugee shelters in Brussels.
Brussels is the last stop for these women refugees, and shelters work to ensure they are treated as human beings. They aim to 'help the girls in any way, even if it’s just for one day', explains one volunteer. Many voluntary workers hope for a more tolerant future. 'I think my biggest wish is to see a true European reception policy and an end to this thing of ‘them’ and ‘us’,' says one shelter worker.
