The Cannibals' War

The bloody violence of Charles Taylor's cannibal soldiers

The Cannibals' War As the trial of former Liberian dictator Charles Taylor proceeds, this exclusive report exposes the cannibalistic atrocities committed by Taylor's men. Filmed in the middle of the civil war, it includes footage of Taylor's supporters preparing to eat a human heart and a rare interview with Taylor.
One of the more nasty accusations facing Charles Taylor is that he encouraged cannibalism. This film forms a part of the evidence against him on this account. "You cook it like normal soup with black pepper, onions, seasoning, everything to make the soup real nice", says the young boy brandishing a human heart. Producer Mark Stucke witnessed first hand the widespread practise. In the film he discovers a band of teenage NPFL fighters, sliced bodies at their feet. 'If I find my enemy I eat him', a commander boasts. Charles Taylor interviewed would only say; "We have heard of cannibalism but this is an issue of war. There is no civilised war."

A film by Mark Stucke.
