Last Chance?
Two years after the violence that killed 1,300 people and sent more than half a million fleeing, Kenya needs to smooth out its political system. The draft constitution is being discussed by influential politicians - some of whom already have blood on their hands. "Kenya is still considered internationally to be one of the world's most corrupt, especially the Kenyan police force." admits Phyllis Njongu, a local tribeswoman. Her neighbour Gachie, also has little faith in the system; "This always happens when there is an election. We wait to see if they will beat us and chase us away or say 'everything is ok', we are still waiting." With Parliamentary officials enriched by embezzlement, the question is will they try to stop the planned referendum in March 2010?
