The aftermath of the Rwandan genocide

Massacre The Rwandan genocide left half a million dead and millions more homeless. The government-backed Hutu tribe began the systematic extermination of the minority Tutsis, after the assassination of the president. Now, the Rwandan Patriotic Front is promising to restore peace and bring democracy to this shattered country, and to oust the government from its seat of power.
The survivors of the massacre are left with machete wounds and the horrifying memories of what happened to their communities. Now, as the government forces are being pushed back to the capital, there is an atmosphere of reconciliation. The few opposition politicians who survived the slaughter have gathered around a table. Some are Hutus, some are Tutsi, but they believe putting aside ancient differences is the only way forward. "Maybe we have to put together all our different ideas to build the country", says Bonadventure Ubalijoro, leader of the opposition.
