Hezbollah The absence of strong government in Lebanon has enabled Hezbollah to become a major political force. Many believe only they can defend the country from Israel.
"If Hezbollah wasn't here, Israel would invade us in the morning, kill us and destroy our houses," states local Hassan Marhas. It's not only protection that Hezbollah provides. They run schools, health clinics and social programmes and are a credible political movement. "They have a dozen MPs in parliament already," states journalist Michael Glackin. America's condemnation of them only increases their popularity.
