Echoes of Horror

Echoes of Horror A new front is opening up in the Darfur conflict with janjaweed militias now targeting villagers in Chad. Thousands are so desperate, they're fleeing to Darfur.
The scattered, broken belongings, abandoned homes and bloodstained ground are all signs of a janjaweed attack. But this is Chad, not Darfur. "It's clear war is spilling over into Chad", laments Olivier Bercault from Human Rights Watch. "Visually, it's exactly the same picture as Darfur." Since January, at least 20,000 Chadian villagers have been forced from their homes. They join the 200,000 refugees from Darfur already inside Chad. As the conflict deepens, the whole area is drifting towards regional war.
