CIA on Trial

CIA on Trial German officials, hoping to charge the CIA agents who rendered a German citizen, will be watching the case of Abu Omar very closely. If successful, it will be the first time CIA agents are put on trial.
When 26 CIA operatives snatched Abu Omar from Milan and sent him to Egypt to be tortured, they "seriously damaged" an Italian investigation. Now prosecutor Armando Spataro hopes to bring these CIA agents to account. "They behaved like spies out of a B movie, acting with absolute impunity", complains MEP Claudio Fava. Whether the trial succeeds or not, the implications have already been far reaching. "What was established over years and years of co-operation was absolutely damaged", explains Fabrizio Luciolli.
