Deadly Trip of a Lifetime When more than 200 people embarked on a cruise to the Antarctic as the pandemic started, more than half of them fell ill with coronavirus - turning a trip of a lifetime into a nightmare.
Aurora Expeditions' cruise ship set off for the Antarctic four days after the WHO declared a pandemic. 'We went ahead on a cruise that should have never been started,' says one ship worker. Passengers expressed concern, but one reports that they ’were told that it was going to go ahead and if they chose to pull out, then there would be no refund.' The virus spread rapidly among crew and passengers, with a number losing their lives.
