Destination Mars
SpaceX prepares for test flight of spaceship destined for Mars
The space sector is being rapidly commercialized, helmed by entrepreneurs like Elon Musk. Musk's next big project? The Starship - a spacecraft whose mission is to transport humans as far as Mars.
'He doesn't really care if it's messy, he doesn't really care if it appears to be chaotic, he's trying to go forward into the future as fast as possible', says space writer Eric Berger. He's referring to Elon Musk's next major project with his Aerospace company SpaceX: building a 120-metre spacecraft. The goal is for humans to travel beyond the moon, to Mars. Musk even wants to go as far as colonization. 'The objective [is] a self-sustaining city on Mars', explains Musk. The Starship has accrued a large fan following - but it also has its fair share of critics. 'If Neil Armstrong were alive today to talk to them, he would probably say "that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard."', says former head of Nasa Charlie Bolden.
