Kurds vs ISIS

Kurds vs ISIS In the disputed area on the edges of IS-controlled territory are the last outposts of Kurdish resistance to IS. With incredible access this report meets the hardened fighters and embittered refugees among them.
As ISIS cement their control of the key town of Mosul, refugees have been leaving in droves. Despite IS propaganda, those fleeing insist there is no electricity, no water, no jobs. "IS controls everyone's daily routine. Everything you hear about them is true. They are monsters", says a man who fled the town. He has made it to Erbil, recently recaptured by Kurd forces, who are waging a bloody war with Islamic State to protect their land. Gunfights, car bombs and aerial attacks are a daily reality for the soldiers and the displaced who occupy this zone, mere kilometres from the waving flags of the Islamic State. The Peshmerga fighters on the frontline hold little hope of support from Iraq. "The Iraqi army hasn't got the strength. They are corrupted, losers."
