Presevo Tinderbox

Tensions persist for Serbia's Albanians

Presevo Tinderbox With international involvement in the entire Balkans now under threat, we look at another Albanian region of Serbia which could implode. Violent attacks have driven all orthodox Serbs from Preševo, just a few kilometres from Kosovo.
Police chiefs say Albanian terror is at work, and have discovered many weapons. Even a joint Serb-Albanian police force has been attacked. The region still suffers from a lack of infrastructure born under Milosevic. Long-delayed elections may integrate Albanians into politics, but the fear of another ethnic split is palpable.
