No Peace for Hizbollah

The power of Islamic fundamentalism is growing in Southern Lebanon.

No Peace for Hizbollah Hizbollah fundamentalists in Southern Lebanon have been heavily bombarded by Israeli forces. Rather than decreasing support as hoped, sympathy with Hizbollah and their ideology seems only to have grown in Lebanon.
Lebanon is becoming a battleground for the fundamental differences between Israel and Iran. Whilst Israel bombs settlements, Iran has injected cash via the Syrian government, and unsurprisingly this latter strategy has proved more popular with the locals. Hizbollah is actively building opposition to the peace accords between the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organisation) and Israel, and support is growing. "We consider resistance in Southern Lebanon as our right and our duty and it will continue" says Hajj Ammar Al-Moussawi, Deputy Director of the Hizbollah Politburo. Hilltop bunkers and communications posts of the Israeli-backed South Lebanese army overlook villages now dominated by Hizbollah. The Muslim war on Israel's northern border seems certain to continue.

A film by Mark Stucke.
