Giraffic Park

Recreating the African savannah in the Philippines

Giraffic Park One of ex-dictator President Marcos' more bizarre legacies is found on Calauit Island - a bizarre free-roaming menagerie of African creatures, from giraffes to waterbuck.
Dozens of giraffe, zebra, and impala were imported to re-create the African savannah on this tropical island. But without presidential patronage, the park has become something of a white elephant. It is lacking in funds and the locals are none too fond of them either.
